As a parent you give your children a good start in life—you nurture, protect and guide them. Parenting is a process that prepares your child for independence. As your child grows and develops, there are many things you can do to help your child. - Wake your children up with soft tones and loving touch
- Put your arms around their shoulders while taking a walk or hold hands while going out.
- Children always must be parent’s priority
- Listen whole heartedly when your child is talking to you
- Any important assignment/work can wait when your child seeks your attention.
- Each child’s needs are individual and must be given individual attention do not generalize.
- Your child’s efforts must be praised and encouraged. Don’t focus on results.
- Encourage and answer questions and doubts. Sometimes , looks for answer together
- Thank your child for any help or gesture rendered by him/her. This way, you well end up teaching him/her. This way you well end up teaching him/her to say thank you.
- Respect your child’s views, thoughts and feelings. He/she in an individual in his/her own right.
- Making Mistakes or admitting to errors is graceful. Lead by example. Own up your mistakes.
- Even if you are angry with your child, make peace at the end of day. The must not go to bed unhappy or angry.
- Hang an emotions chart in the kid’s room. Kids can sketch their mood- a happy face, a sad face, an angry face etc.
- Go on short breaks to movies, restaurants or just a neighborhood chaat-wallah (Let kids choose them)
- Imitate animal sounds or mine comedy acts on Sunday afternoons.
